10 Pro Tips to Buy a Good Tripod

• First & Foremost : A decent budget for a feature packed Tripod to bring out fullest of your inner creativity.

 

• Select your Tripod in accordance with your Compact, DSLR, Video or a Mirrorless Camera.

 

• Your shooting preferences also play an important role in selecting a Tripod, your preferred subjects i.e Macro, Wildlife/Birding, Landscape, Street  Photography, Travel, Food/Product, Industrial, Wedding & so on….The type of photography you are into is a most crucial factor in selecting a Tripod support. For macro/food & table top photography tripod with horizontal center column is recommended.

 

• Choose a Tripod which has an appropriate self weight which can be handled without great effort while travelling.

 

• Load Capacity : Check Load Capacity of a Tripod, this is a vital aspect of a Tripod which qualifies for your equipments, depending on how heavy is your camera or lens. Tripod should be selected accordingly with your camera and lens, especially if you have long telephoto lens like 150-600 ideally a load capacity of 12kgs and above are recommended, for Prime Telephoto lenses like 500mm or 600mm load capacity of 18kgs & above are recommended.

 

• Lock System : This is one of the most common query, There are 2 locking system Flip lock & Twist lock, flip lock is a traditional locking system for a Tripod, twist lock has been introduced by manufacturers to cater pro segment, both are convenient to use, but there is a thin line between these two locking systems, in short if you are in professional category then Twist lock system is recommended, though flip is not ruled out at all but twist lock has an edge over flip lock.
